Peter and Dilhan founded Gathera in 2018 after graduating from their engineering degrees, and have been focused on making good looking and easy to use household hydroponic gardening technologies accessible to everyday people.
Design led, and constantly optimising
Over the many years that we've been operating, we've done extensive customer research to understand the features that our customers care about, which we could then use our engineering skills to optimise. The result is that we have been able to design high quality products that are easier to grow, maintain, clean, and eventually recycle than any other hydroponic brand in the world.
Many of our products have had multiple iterations, for example we launched the Family Farm in 2020 for sale, before iterating and launching the Sun Shelf in 2022 - which was more affordable, easier to use, had more capability to control the timers and light intensity on each set of lights. After a year we launched the Sun Shelf 2 - which was EVEN MORE affordable, had simpler wiring, and looked better. Now, in 2024 we're onto the Sun Shelf 3, a massive overhaul which has doubled the light efficiency, halved the number of the internal plug connections, doubled the water capacity per plant, and introduced netcups with built in algae guards which are easier to clean and harder to break as they are made of food grade silicone. We've done this across most of our products, resulting in some of the best quality indoor gardening products in the world.

Building a modular ecosystem
We've worked hard to build a modular ecosystem within the Gathera range, what does this mean for you? If you buy a Sun Garden and later want to expand to a Sun Shelf - great! All of your light panels, basins, pumps, and controllers will work with our sun shelf! Furthermore, the Sun Garden will fit on top of the Sun Shelf. Finally, because we've made almost the entire range modular, it means we can easily replace components as they naturally break over the lifespan of your products!
